Anne Champagne placed second at Toughest Mudder East this year, near Boston. Two months after that race she placed first OVERALL at the Spartan Ultrabeast in Stoneham, Quebec. She beat all the women and the men.

This is Anne's first year at World's Toughest Mudder, but she is an athlete to keep your eye on.

We talked with Gina Estrada about working Pit Crew for Toughest Mudder and World’s Toughest Mudder. Gina has worked pit for Team Four Eyes, Amelia Boone, Ryan Atkins, Austin Azar, Trevor Cichosz, Lindsay Webster, Allison Tai and more. Will got to watch Gina work a bit in Atlanta. When one of her athletes would come in she would feed them, handle their gear, and get them back onto the course like a Nascar pit stop.

She shares some of her secrets including having a “Pit Kit” ready and on hand at all times. Anything that her athlete could imagine they would need, she has in her Pit Kit. From batteries to nutrition to meds to chewing gum and more, she’s ready for whatever goes wrong. Building your own Pit Kit is a good first step to running a pit crew.

Ken Roberts is a member of the World’s Toughest Mudder community who is also a dietitian. We take a deep dive into the world of endurance racing fueling and nutrition. We talk calories per hour and water volume and the high level topics, but we also get into some practical easily applied advice: What should you eat the day before WTM? What should eat the morning of the race? What should you eat during the race?

Molly Kenneth and Jason Nicholson join us today to talk about Jason’s story from World’s Toughest Mudder 2016. Jason ran 65 miles at WTM 2016, and finished on his feet, but due to a number of mistakes he made, he was in a Las Vegas hospital two days later. Every wrong thing he did is completely preventable, from over-hydration to taking pain medication during an ultra-endurance event. We talk about how you can make sure you don’t end up in a hospital bed for a week like Jason.

Diana Codispoti is "four-foot-five on a good day". Our host met Diana at Toughest Mudder Norcal last month and was happy to bring her on the show.

Diana has run two Toughest Mudder races this year and will be at World's Toughest Mudder next month in Atlanta. To the best of our knowledge, Diana is the first (and only) little person to compete at World's Toughest Mudder.

Diana talks about some of the unique challenges she faces completing obstacles and putting in the miles running. She also talks about her thoughts on Daytime Toughest Mudder vs. Nighttime Toughest Mudder and what her family thinks about her plan to run for 24 hours straight at WTM.

World's Toughest Mudder is just weeks away. We talked with the race directors of WTM 2018 for a preview of what runners can expect when they show up in Atlanta on November 10th.

Nolan Kombol and Eli Hutchison lead the team that designs World's Toughest Mudder. They set the course. They choose the obstacles. They control your fate for 24 hours in November. No one knows what to expect at WTM 2018 better than these two men.

Nolan and Eli LAY IT OUT for us in this interview. They start at 14:07.

Do not let anyone else spoil this interview for you.

Do not spoil this interview for anyone else.

Kris Mendoza is one of seven men to run 100 miles or more at World's Toughest Mudder. He is also one of the only seven men to ever win a Toughest Mudder race. He won Toughest Mudder West at Norcal recently.

Kris talks about his race and how it felt to win the race surrounded by his friends and family. He also shares good advice on problem solving during long endurance events such as Toughest Mudder and World's Toughest Mudder.

Before we talk with Kris we revisit the new Age Groups for WTM 2018 with a unique idea from Katelyn Ritter of the Obstacle Running Adventures podcast and we debut a new segment of the show "You're So Smart". Why? Because you're so smart.

We also give away another pair of Merrell Trail Running shoes. Have you entered to win yet? It's free. Text the word TOUGH to the number 228-28.

World's Toughest Mudder is coming up fast. TMHQ has just released the official rules for 2018 and we spend this entire episode breaking them down.

Many of the rules are unchanged from years past, but there are several new ones to be aware of. Among the new rules: Age Group award, $10,000 bonus for the winning man at 115 miles and the winning woman at 95 miles, and no more bibs for most laps overnight.

We also talk about the number one cause of disqualification (Hint: It's quitting), how to get medical treatment without being removed from the race and what to do if you need water wings at the obstacles with water.

Heather Bode spent all day at the first ever daytime Toughest Mudder, at Toughest Mudder West in Sonoma, California.

We talk about the differences between a Toughest Mudder during the day and one at night. What parts were better? What parts were worse? If Heather had the power, would she make Toughest Mudder a day or a night event?

Before we talk with Heather we talk about the Toughest Mudder West winners and all of the Elite Contenders to come out of the weekend. There were plenty of familiar faces to those that follow the sport.

Two big announcements in this episode:

1) We are giving away five pair (pairs?) of Merrell Trail Running Shoes in our next five episodes. Text TOUGH to 228-28 to be entered to win.
