World’s Toughest Podcast

Welcome to the World’s Toughest Podcast, where we talk about any Obstacle Course Race you’d like, as long as it's World’s Toughest Mudder. Each week we talk to members of the WTM Community and share stories of success and failure in the single greatest event in OCR. We are the Number One rated Obstacle Course Racing podcast in the world according to Apple Podcasts and Amazon.com. Thank you. The Worlds Toughest Podcast is a production of Contender Media and is not affiliated with Tough Mudder or TMHQ. Opinions expressed are those of the host and guest and are not necessarily the opinions of Tough Mudder. But they might be.

Amelia Boone holds nearly every women's record at World’s Toughest Mudder. She was the first woman to win back to back titles. She was the first woman to run 90 miles. She is the only woman to win World’s Toughest Mudder three times. More than any other woman in Obstacle Course Racing she has achieved breakout success with commercials, endorsements, and magazine covers.

Today on the show Amelia Boone announces her return to competition at World's Toughest Mudder.

Trevor Cichosz has more individual podiums at World’s Toughest Mudder than anyone else alive. Cichosz has been on the men’s podium every single year since 2014, a five-year streak that is still ongoing. Starting in 2014 Cichosz has finished World’s Toughest Mudder in 3rd place, 2nd place, 1st place, 3rd place, and most recently, 2nd place in 2018. If that pattern holds up Cichosz will claim his 2nd World’s Toughest Mudder championship this November in Atlanta.

Stefanie Bishop is the 2016 Women’s World’s Toughest Mudder Champion. Her 85 miles in 2016 is the second-highest milage ever run by a woman at World’s Toughest Mudder. She is also active in the multi-day Adventure Running community with a resume of crazy races to show for it.

Kris Mendoza is one of the most beloved members of the Tough Mudder community. Kris has run World’s Toughest Mudder every year since 2014, finishing with 50 miles in his first year. In 2017 he was on the first-place relay team and in 2018 he won his first individual World’s Toughest Mudder championship. He won the race with a dramatic pass of Trevor Cichosz, the Men's Champion in 2016. Mendoza passed Cichosz less than one mile from the finish line. Mendoza’s win in 2018 was the closest, most dramatic finish in World’s Toughest Mudder history.

Mendoza is also a doctor, working as a dental anesthesiologist near his training grounds in Colorado.

Ryan Atkins is the only six-time champion of World’s Toughest Mudder. No one else has won it more than three times and no other man has won it more than twice. Atkins won his first title in 2013 with the first-ever 100-mile performance at World’s Toughest Mudder. He also won individual titles in 2014 and 2017 as well as winning team titles in 2015, 2016, and 2018. His 2016 team performance with Jon Albon of 105 miles earned them the bonus prize of $100,000. Atkins also holds the record for highest mileage at a single WTM with 110 miles in 2017. Atkins is undoubtedly the greatest athlete in endurance OCR.

Rea Kolbl is the reigning women’s champion of World’s Toughest Mudder. Her win in Atlanta in 2018 was a successful defense of her first win in Las Vegas 2017. With her back-to-back wins in 2017 and 2018 she became the first back-to-back individual winner since Amelia Boone in 2014 and 2015. Her 90 miles in 2017 tied the record for a woman set by Amelia Boone in 2012.

Atkins and Kolbl are the only past winners to win back to back individual titles at two different race venues. Atkins won in 2013 in New Jersey and 2014 in Vegas. Kolbl won in 2017 in Vegas and 2018 in Atlanta.

Ryan and Rea talked with us from a boat landing in Fiji. They will be teammates competing on the new Eco-Challenge airing on Amazon Prime in 2020. Stay tuned for more on the Eco-Challenge next year.

Toughest Mudder South is this weekend outside Dallas. It will have 20 obstacles over the five-mile course. The man and woman who complete the most laps in 12 hours will win the race. Carlo Piscitello will be at the race with live updates all night long for The OCR Report on Instagram.

Before Carlo and Will talk about the race, they talk about the first time Carlo ran World's Toughest Mudder. Will and Carlo both ran World's Toughest Mudder for the first time in 2015. They share stories from their first time including the common experience of bringing FAR too much gear to your first WTM and having to haul it all in, and then hauling it all out once the race is over. And then you see Ryan Atkins show up with a carry-on bag that would fit underneath the seat of an airplane and you wonder what you're even doing out there on the same course with him.

It is TIME. Leave a review for the show on Apple Podcasts and Amazon.com!
